TRINITY UNITED CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Church History of First Christian Church

by Irene Love

On November 23, 1902, nine people met in a home for a communion service.  They had been Disciples of Christ in a Christian Church elsewhere and wanted to establish after the New Testament pattern in New Kensington .  A building was built and dedicated in 1904.  After ten years a lot was purchased on Woodmont and Locust.  Sacrificial giving of members and friends, suppers and even mortgaging their homes made it possible for the Lord’s home to be built.

As the years passed, much progress has been made.  The accomplishments included new members in attendance during worship, large attendance in Vacation Bible School and many activities for the youth group in the church.

In 1992, folks discussed the possibility of two congregations, Trinity United Church of Christ and the First Christian Church merging together in order to pool their resources and become more effective in witnessing for the Lord in the community.  In May of 1992, the elders from both churches met.  The churches started to hold monthly joint services in August 1992 and the elders made plans to share more programs.  During the month of November, each congregation held a listening and feedback session with their respective members.  The church leaders were clear that they would continue to hold up Jesus Christ as Lord and would follow the Bible as the rule of faith and practice.

On January 31, 1993, the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Trinity United Church of Christ voted to become the Trinity United Christian Church.

The first service in our new church home was held on February 7, 1993, and we look forward with great expectations to the future of the merger.  Together, we sought God’s guidance and blessing in this journey in faith in the Kiski Valley .

Church History of Trinity Reformed Church

by Rose Bateman

In the summer of 1892, students from Lancaster PA were commissioned to look after the interests of Reformed Churches in Salina , Apollo and New Kensington .

In 1894, a Sunday School was established and church services conducted.  On January 16, 1895, the Reformed Church was deeded an area on Constitution Boulevard to be used for church purposes.  In 1986 a church building was dedicated.  As the church grew and changed, the name in 1957 was given Trinity United Church of Christ.  As previously shared in First Christian’s history, several joint services were held with First Christian—namely, Vacation Bible School , a retreat and Sunday worship.

TRINITY UNITED CHRISTIAN CHURCH - New Kensington PA

After sharing the Advent season together, the congregations voted on a proposal to merge.  Both congregations voted in favor of the merger.  The Trinity United Church of Christ and the First Christian Church became a new church: the Trinity United Christian Church.  The first worship service of the new church was held on Sunday February 7, 1993.   The new Trinity Church met in the Trinity United Christian Church building.

TRINITY UNITED CHRISTIAN CHURCH - Lower Burrell PA

In 1999, a bold step of faith was taken.  It was the biggest we would ever make.  The decision was made to relocate to Lower Burrell and build a new complex.  This new campus, in Braeburn Heights , was a logical step.  Ground was broken in the fall and we started to build.  A miracle was rising out of the ground.  Faith prevailed.  Through volunteer help and faith in the impossible, TUCC opened the doors to a new church in the spring of 2000.  It was nothing short of a miracle.

At TUCC we want to provide Jesus’ message in a form and language that today’s culture can understand and embrace.  We desire to develop ministries that can continually adjust, adapt and change in our changing culture.  Our goal is to come into the twenty-first century.

Our purpose is to lead people to Jesus Christ and make disciples.  Our mission is to motivate the congregation to serve and be a witness for the Lord to our community.

Our slogan, Winning, Discipling, Serving sums up TUCC’s mission.  It is our mission and strategy tied up in one phrase.

Trinity has a fantastic future.  We are looking for God to surprise us again!

All of this has been due to God.  The congregation loves the Lord and desires to walk with God in the direction He wants us to travel!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
