NICODEMUS and JOHN
I will say and point toward the door you are at:
Cletus: And Nicodemus came by night,
Rich, you walk up to the front of the sanctuary where I
am at
And say the things you told me the other night at the
praise team.
I’ll let you say these things for a few minutes, then
I will say…
Cletus: Nicodemus,
tell me about the time you came to see Jesus at night time
We will walk up to the table with the candle, I will
take the scroll of the gospel of John with me and we will sit down in the
chairs…
Open scroll and write in it.
Cletus: Tell
me Nicodemus, what did you and Jesus talk about that night?
Rich: I
asked him,
"Teacher, we know you are a teacher who has come
from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God
were not with him."
Cletus: What did Jesus say to that?
Rich: Well,
he said, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he
is born again. You have to be 'born from above'—out of this world, so to
speak.”
Cletus: Born
Again? What does what mean?
That doesn’t even make sense.
Rich: That’s
what I said. I asked him,
"How can anyone be born who has already been born
and grown up? You can't re-enter your mother's womb and be born again. What are
you saying with this 'born-from-above' talk?"
Cletus: What
did Jesus say to that?
Rich: He
said, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he
is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit
gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You
must be born again.'
I asked Jesus,
"What do you mean by this? How does this
happen?"
Cletus: What
did Jesus say to that?
Rich: Jesus
told me,
“You're a respected teacher of Israel and you don't
know these basics? Listen carefully. I'm speaking sober truth to you. Yet
instead of facing the evidence and accepting it, you procrastinate with
questions. If I tell you things that are plain as the hand before your face and
you don't believe me, what use is there in telling you of things you can't see,
the things of God?
Cletus: Wow,
that’s amazing! Nicodemus, you
told me one time that Jesus made a incredible statement that will be remembered
for all time. It began something
like, “For God so loved…
Rich: (Interrupts
me) Yes, he said,
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.”
